The advent of digital music may be making the album cover seem quaint, but some of us still believe in the full package. For better or for worse, here are the good, the bad and the ugly...
Wait a second. I just found a larger image of the cover, and I have some questions.
1) Why is he airborne? Is he levitating? And if he can levitate, don't you think he could levitate his skinny ass right out the window?
2) Maybe he's not levitating, maybe there's a really strong wind blowing through the grates of his cell. But then, wouldn't his little loincloth thingie be blowing like Marilyn Monroe's dress above the subway grate? Man, that'd be hot.
3) Why did the prison chef put skulls on his plate? You can't eat skulls, silly!
This is an amazing album cover, if you think it's terrible, I think you need to go and take a look at hundreds of other album covers and see how much worse it can get, and trust me it gets reallllllyyyy bad.
The whole idea in this cover is the fact that man is being extinct, the levitation shows how he has died already, like a soul is floating away. The skulls show that he hasn't been eating healthy but is mainly there to symbolize death. The gradient and background show a very eerie and scary place that sends chills down anyones spine. The color expresses the sadness of how man may become extinct in such an awful place.
Regardless what's important is the music, and the music is one of the most genius works of art, out there.
Wow Lila, are there a lot of really bad album covers out there? I never knew. C'mon, I didn't say it was the worst just that it was terrible. And I'm right.
I get the symbolism, but the symbols are so stupid that they're awful. It has all the subtlety of being hit in the head with a baseball bat. Plus, it's all done in that typical early 90s surreal/real style that now just looks dated. Most of those covers look bad now, but this one even looks bad at the time.
As far as the music goes, it's a good album, but I think you'll have a hard time making a case for any Megadeth album being "genius" and this isn't even their best record.

I thought "So far, so good,so what?" had a worse cover.
I can't see what's on his plate of tasty food. Is it relevant to the brilliance of the cover?

This one freaks me out.
