Mighty Mighty Bosstones/Kiss - Detroit Rock City 7"
The Bosstones always had the ability to mix the serious and the silly, but I don't think they bothered with anything serious here. The front cover features the Bosstones in Kiss makeup to correspond with their cover of "Detroit Rock City."
The back cover features Paul and Gene from the Dressed to Kill cover with plaid suits superimposed. The B-side is Kiss' original version.

As a KISS diehard, I like it. Granted, putting on KISS makeup for a KISS tribute isn't the most original thing to do but putting the plaid suits on Gene and Paul is great.
The black and white look and the angle of the shot is pretty cool. Almost gives it more of a 60's look even though they are covering something from the 70's. Reminds me a little of covers of the horror/surf/60's music that I listen to some.
That Bosstones cover is funny!!! I never saw that before...
Bob is the king of 7" neatos. I've been a Bosstones fan for a long time and I never knew about this. Definitely know the cover tune from Kiss My Ass, but not this single. Tres cool!
rhodeislandrock - I think putting the plaid on Kiss is what really ties it together. otherwise, it's been done a thousand times as you said.
Mark - I can see why you say that about the retro look. I think the front has that kinda cheap spooky look.
lone beader - I'm not even sure where I bought this one. I've had it for years.
Ray - It's not their best cover song (that woudl be "Sweet Emotion"), but the cover makes it worth having.
Anything in tribute to KISS usually elicits good feelings for me. It shows that the Bosstones have good taste and they aren't afraid to admit they are KISS fans. Kiss always had some of the greatestt album covers.
