Jethro Tull-Aqualung
I think I saw this in record stores numerous times before hearing the whole album. The dude on the cover always creeped me out. It's partially his horrible expression and partially the colors and the painting style I think. Actually this still creeps me out a little. I have it on vinyl now, but had it on cd for years.

If it creeps you out, I think the cover has served its purpose. There's nothing about Aqualung that isn't creepy.
A perfect cover for the album. Some of Tull's album covers were distractions; some, like this and "Thick as a Brick," were right on.

I think it's fabulous artwork:)
Yes, I think the hint of something sinister that doesn't quite come to fruition (minus some really grimy, nearly evil-sounding licks) on the album. The backwash colors especially remind me of how many late 60s and early 70s albums used that as a template. I think America was infatuated by abstract art at that time, though the center figure is hardly abstract. Goes to show you can mix mediums and still be effective.
Hmmm... quite possibly my favorite album cover of all time. Not to mention one of the greatest albums of all time.
